Interim Finance Improvement Lead - Manufacturing

Most of what this finance team knows lives in people's heads. For three months, your job is to get it out of there.

A leading UK manufacturer is taking on more work after a change of ownership. The finance team is lean, the basics get done, and the interim Head of Finance wants someone who will document how finance really runs, challenge what does not add value, and build what is missing.

Here is what you would pick up in your first few weeks.

- Document all processes, proceudures, ways of working; some areas of focus include:

- A cash flow model that exists only at a high level. Cash matters a great deal here, so it needs to be detailed and accurate.

- Spend reviews that are not yet routine. You would put a monthly cost review in place.

- Purchasing controls and approval levels, starting with the basics.

- Stock cover ahead of a seasonal peak: how much is enough, without putting the build at risk.

- Reporting files that grow month after month instead of resetting each year.

- A move between reporting systems, with figures loaded into both during the transition.

- Provide solutions and recommendations

This is Financial Controller level work, but not a 'doing', BAU finance role. Accounts payable and receivable sit with a shared service centre, so you would be free to focus on the project.

You will suit this if you have mapped a process you inherited, not just followed one. Manufacturing experience, a qualified accountancy background (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) and a curious, hands-on approach matter more than a perfect job title. Interim Financial Controllers, Finance Business Partners and Finance Transformation leads are all worth a conversation.

The honest part: three months is signed off. Longer is possible, but it is not promised. You would be on site at least three days a week, and there is no job description. The brief is a conversation about what the team needs.
