Systems Architect – Financial Services (Contract)

Location: UK (Hybrid/Remote)

Rate: Up to £700 per day Outside IR35

We are looking for an experienced Systems Architect to join a consultancy engagement supporting the design and evolution of large-scale financial services platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience working within leading digital banks or fintech organisations such as Monzo, Starling Bank, Revolut, or similar fast-growth financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design scalable, resilient, and secure systems architectures across core banking, payments, lending, and customer platforms.
• Define target-state architecture, integration patterns, and technology roadmaps aligned to business objectives.
• Work closely with engineering, product, and platform teams to deliver highly available, cloud-native solutions.
• Lead architectural reviews and provide guidance on system performance, scalability, reliability, and operational resilience.
• Support the modernisation of legacy platforms and the adoption of microservices, event-driven architectures, and API-first design principles.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align technology strategy with business growth and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Proven Systems Architect experience within banking, fintech, payments, or regulated financial services.
• Background working in modern digital banking environments such as Monzo, Starling, Revolut, or comparable organisations.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), APIs, and microservices architecture.
• Experience designing high-volume, customer-facing platforms handling significant transaction throughput.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels.
