Parity Group are delighted to be engaged with a well-known progressive organisation on a large project and as a result have the need for a UNIX Engineer to join their team based in Edinburgh on a 6 months contract.

Role
An experienced Unix engineer is required to assist the organisation in the design and build of a new Unix platform and improve the existing setup.
Main Outcomes
- Migrate current UNIX platform to RHEL8
- Develop and strengthen automation to support disaster recovery activities
- Integrate core infrastructure with NetApp Metrocluster
- Deliver MongoDB upgrade/migration project
- Review vendor support agreements
Additional Services
- Provide expert guidance on setup and support for current platform
- Continue to drive service improvements across security and system vulnerabilities
- Maintain existing platform to include future provisioning and best practice setup
- Support for existing UNIX infrastructure
- Optimisation of existing and new UNIX infrastructure
- Disaster Recovery design & implementation for Solaris
- Storage Management for Solaris, RHEL & Windows on NetApp
- Hashicorp Vault Secrets Management
- Hashicorp Consul and Vault Architectural Design and Implementation
- Ansible automation of OS and Application and deployments/upgrades
- Develop and maintain site monitoring for Solaris, NetApp, Oracle & NSX using REST APIs, InfluxDB, Grafana & Nagio
- RHEL AD integration using both IDM and Winbind
- Solaris AD integration using OneIdentity Authentication Services
- Regular Solaris patching and security hardening in line with Cyber Essentials Plus
- Red Hat Satellite management
- Solaris IPS repo management
- Security analysis/remediation of in-house Legacy Solaris applications
- Jenkins administration and pipeline creation
- Implement and support Load Balancer technologies such as HAProxy and keepalived
- CommVault backup administration
- Samba administration
- ZFS administration
Essential Skills and Experience:
Significant and demonstrable commercial experience of the following:
o RHEL 6/7/8 System administration
o Solaris 2.6 onwards to 11 administration
o Solaris Zone administration
o Oracle VM administration using Oracle VM Manager
o Red Hat Satellite administration
o Automation
o Ontap 9 CLI
o REST API
o MetroCluster
o System configuration
o Pipeline creation and management
o CommVault
o Snap Manager for Oracle
o Avamar
- Shell Scripting, specifically Bash and Perl
- Python
- Ansible
- Stackstorm
- Orquesta
- Load Balancer technologies, eg HAProxy and keepalived
- Grafana, Nagios and InfluxDB
- Agile working practices, including Kanban/Scrum, retrospectives, VFQ.
- Cyber Essentials Plus methodology
- Customer focused, through proactive engagement
- Risk aware, focused on risk reduction and mitigation
- Effective team working and technical decision making
- Designing and leading infrastructure projects
- Creativity - taking new approaches to tackle problems; embracing innovation andsharing knowledge with, a range of sources and stakeholders
- Strong documentation skills essential
- DevOps practices, including automation of infrastructure
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Work with wider assurance function to ensure DR testing procedures are well established and performant
- General security design and architecture knowledge
- Support of Oracle DBs on Solaris
- Avamar backup administration
- Understanding Oracle license model
