This is a specialist technical contract requiring someone who can bridge software engineering, architecture, QA and business stakeholders. The standout requirement is hands-on knowledge of Aeron, Kafka or equivalent high-performance messaging technologies, ideally within investment banking, electronic trading or financial markets.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Business Analyst to join an exciting technology project with a specialist financial technology consultancy delivering sophisticated trading solutions for leading investment banks, investment managers and capital markets organisations.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of business analysis, software engineering and architecture, helping shape complex, high-performance trading platforms.

The successful individual will have a strong technical background, ideally gained in software engineering, QA, technical business analysis or a similarly engineering-led environment. You will work closely with developers, architects, QA teams and business stakeholders to translate complex technical challenges into clear requirements and deliverable solutions.

• Lead requirements gathering and analysis in complex, technically demanding environments.

• Translate business and technical needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements.

• Work closely with software engineers, architects and QA teams to shape solutions and delivery approaches.

• Define and manage product backlogs, user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritisation.

• Facilitate technical and business discussions, bringing structure and clarity to ambiguous requirements.

• Contribute to architecture and design discussions, understanding system behaviour and interactions across distributed platforms.

• Define operational scenarios, failure conditions and QA validation requirements.

• Develop process flows, sequencing diagrams and technical documentation.

• Support Agile/Kanban delivery, sprint planning, estimation, testing and release activities.

• Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, resilience and availability expectations.

• Significant experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Software Engineer, QA Engineer or in another highly technical product environment.

• Strong technical understanding of distributed systems and complex software architectures.

• Hands-on experience with high-performance messaging or sequencing technologies such as Aeron, Kafka, Hydra or equivalent.

• Understanding of message ordering, state machine replication and fault-tolerant distributed systems.

• Experience working with low-latency or high-throughput messaging infrastructure, ideally within financial services, electronic trading or capital markets.

• Ability to define functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability and resilience.

• Experience working closely with Java engineering teams; a senior Java development background would be particularly advantageous.

• Strong understanding of Agile or Kanban delivery and the full software development lifecycle.

• Experience contributing to solution design and architecture discussions.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate across both technical and business teams.
