Contract Description

Data Platform Engineer / Data Architect | Hybrid | Contract Outside IR35

Data Platform Engineer / Data Architect | Hybrid | Contract Outside IR35

I'm currently supporting a leading defence and technology programme on the search for an experienced Data Platform Engineer or Data Architect to help shape and establish a modern enterprise data platform within a highly technical environment.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the design and development of a modern on-premise data platform, helping define the architecture, technologies and engineering practices needed to ingest, manage, store and govern data across multiple systems.

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience designing, building and operating data platforms. While hands-on experience delivering on-premise platforms from scratch would be ideal, strong cloud-native data platform engineers with a solid understanding of architecture, infrastructure and operational considerations are also encouraged to apply.

You'll work across data platform architecture, ingestion and integration, data modelling, orchestration and containerised workloads, helping shape a scalable, secure and reliable platform suited to enterprise requirements.

The Role

🏠 Hybrid Working

🛡️ Defence & Secure Environments

🔐 Active SC Clearance Mandatory

🏗️ Data Platform Architecture & Design

☸️ Kubernetes & Containerised Workloads

🔄 Data Ingestion, Orchestration & Pipelines

🗄️ Data Storage, Modelling & Integration

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and contribute to the architecture of a modern enterprise data platform, with a focus on on-premise deployment and operations.
  • Evaluate suitable technologies and architecture patterns for data ingestion, storage, orchestration, cataloguing and governance.
  • Develop and support data pipelines for both batch and streaming workloads.
  • Use Python to build data platform components, integrations and automation.
  • Work with Kubernetes, containers and orchestration technologies such as Airflow, Dagster or similar.
  • Support data modelling, data product design and the use of modern storage formats such as Parquet, Avro, Iceberg and Delta Lake.
  • Consider platform scalability, reliability, observability, security and maintainability.
  • Contribute to technical discussions around how cloud-native data platform concepts can be adapted to on-premise environments.

Experience designing and operating enterprise data platforms, working with modern data engineering technologies and advising on platform architecture would be highly advantageous.

Experience with Kubernetes, Python, Airflow, Dagster, Kafka, Spark or lakehouse technologies would also be beneficial.

Active UK SC clearance is mandatory.
