Company Overview

Our client is a global organisation operating within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector, with a strong focus on advancing innovative treatments and improving patient outcomes. They are continuing to develop their data and AI capabilities, with a need for experienced architecture professionals who can help shape how data is structured, integrated, governed and used across the business.

Role Overview

We're looking for an experienced Data Solution Architect/Enterprise Domain Architect (Data & AI) to define and govern data architecture across a key business domain.

This is a strategic architecture role with a strong focus on data products, information architecture and integration. You'll work across business and technical teams to ensure data solutions are scalable, reusable, secure and aligned with wider enterprise architecture standards.

You'll provide architectural direction across data products, analytics, integrations and AI initiatives, reviewing proposed designs and helping teams establish consistent approaches to data modelling, governance and delivery.

The role will involve working closely with Data Product Owners, Business Data Analysts, Data Engineers and central enablement teams. You'll be expected to challenge designs where necessary, identify opportunities for reuse and provide clear recommendations that support both business objectives and technical standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and maintaining domain architecture strategies, roadmaps and target-state architectures.
  • Leading data and information architecture activities, including conceptual, logical and physical data modelling.
  • Supporting the development of data products and data mesh capabilities, including domain boundaries, data contracts and reusable data assets.
  • Reviewing data models, integrations and pipeline architectures to ensure scalability, performance, resilience and data quality.
  • Establishing architecture principles, standards and design patterns across data and AI initiatives.
  • Ensuring data governance and information management practices align with relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitating architecture reviews, assessing proposed solutions and identifying technical risks, dependencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Working with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into practical architectural solutions.
  • Producing architecture roadmaps, design documentation, data architecture blueprints and governance assessments.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Strong experience in data architecture, information architecture or data solution design.
  • Experience with data modelling, semantic modelling and ideally ontologies.
  • An understanding of data mesh principles, data products, domain-driven data ownership and data contracts.
  • Experience designing and reviewing data integrations, data platforms and data pipelines.
  • The ability to assess existing data landscapes and identify opportunities for reuse and standardisation.
  • An understanding of data governance, metadata management and regulatory considerations such as GDPR and GxP.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to challenge designs and influence decisions across business and technical teams.
  • Experience producing architecture documentation, target-state designs, roadmaps and technical recommendations.

Knowledge of policy-as-code approaches, such as OPA/Rego, and awareness of the EU AI Act would be beneficial.

This role would suit a senior data architect who enjoys working at the intersection of business strategy, data architecture and technical delivery, with the opportunity to influence how data and AI capabilities evolve across a complex organisation.
