Solution Architect - E-commerce, Order Management & Fulfilment at Bristow Holland Ltd, Hemel Hempstead, 6 Months, £750-£850 per day

We are recruiting an experienced Solution Architect to lead the design of a new end-to-end customer ordering, order management and fulfilment architecture for an established technology business.

The organisation currently operates a fragmented landscape of systems supporting its online shop, product catalogue, order processing, inventory management and warehouse fulfilment. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant architecture transformation, challenging existing processes and defining how the future technology landscape should operate.

Working directly with senior engineering leadership and the CTO, you will have considerable influence over technology selection, architecture decisions and the overall solution approach.

The Assignment

• Assess the existing application landscape, business processes, integrations and technical dependencies.

• Design the target architecture spanning E-commerce, product catalogue, order management, inventory, fulfilment and associated business systems.

• Evaluate and recommend an appropriate order orchestration solution, including packaged platforms, configurable products and bespoke components.

• Define system responsibilities, data ownership and integration patterns across the end-to-end order life cycle.

• Design robust approaches to asynchronous processing, exception handling, reconciliation and operational resilience.

• Lead architecture workshops, challenge existing assumptions and secure agreement on key technology decisions.

• Produce clear architecture deliverables, decision records and a phased implementation roadmap to support engineering delivery.

Experience Required

We are particularly interested in experienced Solution Architects who have previously designed complex E-commerce and order management solutions.

You should be able to demonstrate:

• 10+ years' relevant technology and architecture experience.

• Proven delivery of at least one significant E-commerce, order management or fulfilment architecture programme, ideally more than one.

• Strong understanding of the end-to-end journey from product selection and order capture through to inventory, fulfilment and service delivery.

• Experience evaluating and selecting technology platforms, balancing off-the-shelf solutions with bespoke development.

• Excellent integration architecture experience, including APIs, messaging, event-driven systems and orchestration.

• The ability to work independently, lead technical discussions and translate complex business requirements into practical architecture decisions.

• Experience producing detailed solution architecture artefacts that can be used by engineering teams.

Experience integrating Salesforce with wider enterprise platforms would be advantageous, although this is not a Salesforce-specific architecture role.

The Opportunity

This is a genuinely influential architecture assignment rather than a role focused on maintaining an established solution. The successful contractor will be expected to bring fresh thinking, challenge existing approaches and take ownership of defining the future architecture.

The initial engagement is six months, with a broader transformation programme anticipated to run for 12-18 months.
