Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data/MI Business Analyst to join our team, working closely with business stakeholders, technical teams and data specialists to translate reporting and analytical needs into clear, well-defined requirements.
You will investigate existing reports, datasets and data processes, identify data quality issues and gaps, and define the KPIs, metrics and specifications needed to support better management information (MI), reporting and dashboards.
This role requires a strong combination of business analysis, data investigation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical data solutions.
Location: London, with on-site attendance once a week
Contract Type: Contract, Outside IR35
Rate: Up to £400 per day, Outside IR35
Security Clearance: Active SC clearance essential
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
Work with business stakeholders to understand and clarify MI, reporting and analytical requirements, including underlying business questions and desired outcomes
Investigate existing reports, dashboards, datasets and data processes to understand current capabilities, data sources and reporting gaps
Analyse data using SQL and other analytical techniques to identify data quality issues, discrepancies, trends, anomalies and gaps
Define and document KPIs, metrics, business definitions, calculation logic, rules, assumptions and data requirements
Investigate discrepancies between Legacy systems, datasets and reports, working with technical teams to identify root causes and agree remediation
Translate business and analytical needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and reporting or dashboard specifications
Identify where required data is available, partially available or unavailable, and define the requirements needed to address any gaps
Collaborate with MI Developers, Data Analysts, Data Engineers and Architects to refine requirements and validate analytical solutions
Produce clear documentation, including business requirements, metric definitions, data mappings, investigation findings, data quality assessments and recommendations
Essential Skills & Experience
Security Clearance: Active SC clearance is mandatory for this role
Business Analysis: Proven experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst or MI Business Analyst
Data & MI: Strong experience working with data, management information, reporting or analytics teams
SQL & Data Analysis: Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience investigating, analysing and validating data
KPI & Metrics Definition: Experience defining and documenting KPIs, metrics, business definitions and calculation rules
Data Fundamentals: Strong understanding of data structures, relationships, data lineage and data quality
Data Investigation: Experience analysing complex datasets and investigating reporting discrepancies and data-related issues
Requirements Gathering: Proven ability to translate business requirements into clear technical and analytical specifications
Agile Delivery: Experience working within Agile teams and producing user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting documentation
Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
Communication: Ability to explain complex data and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Desirable
Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse or other enterprise data platforms
Experience working with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
Knowledge of enterprise data models, data governance and data quality frameworks
Experience working within large-scale public sector programmes or complex enterprise environments
