Senior Java Developer | Outside IR35 | Remote

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to support the development of modern, user-focused digital services on a large-scale public sector programme. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, building and improving secure, resilient cloud-native applications.

This is a hands-on engineering role with a core focus on Java Back End development, while contributing across the wider delivery life cycle. You will develop services, APIs and integrations, work with TypeScript-based Front End applications, and help improve the cloud infrastructure and delivery pipelines that support the platform.

• Build, enhance and maintain Back End services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Contribute to TypeScript Front End development, delivering accessible and maintainable user journeys.
• Design and develop solutions using PostgreSQL, with a focus on reliable data handling and performance.
• Work within a microservices-based architecture hosted in AWS.
• Support the deployment and operation of applications using ECS and/or EKS.
• Use Terraform and GitLab CI/CD to automate infrastructure, build, test and release processes.
• Collaborate with product, delivery, QA and technical colleagues to refine requirements and deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Troubleshoot issues across the application stack and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices.

• Strong commercial experience developing Back End applications with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience working with TypeScript in a modern web application environment.
• Strong PostgreSQL or comparable relational database experience.
• Practical experience delivering cloud-hosted services in AWS.
• Exposure to containerised workloads using ECS, EKS or Kubernetes.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform.
• Experience using GitLab CI/CD or a comparable automated delivery toolchain.
• Comfortable working in Agile, collaborative software delivery teams.

• Previous experience delivering complex digital services in government, public sector or another regulated environment.
• Experience working with microservices, RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations.
• Knowledge of secure-by-design development practices, testing and observability.
• Experience working directly with client and stakeholder teams.

• Contract role: 6 months + extensions
• Outside IR35
• £450 per day
• Remote
