What you'll be working towards:

We're looking for an experienced Senior AI Engineer to join a strategic enterprise AI programme supporting the continued evolution of a large-scale AI platform.

This engagement focuses on developing and scaling next-generation AI capabilities that provide conversational access to enterprise data and services through Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Agentic AI.

You'll play a key role in shaping the future direction of the platform, helping to define AI architecture, governance standards, engineering best practices and the adoption of responsible AI. Working closely with engineering teams and senior stakeholders, you'll contribute both strategically and technically while remaining hands-on in the development and delivery of enterprise-grade AI solutions.

Senior AI Engineer (Full Stack AI & Agentic Systems) - Python/React/FastAPI - OUTSIDE IR35 - Telco Sector - Enterprise AI Platform

What you'll be doing:

• Design, build and maintain enterprise-scale AI applications across the full technology stack.
• Develop React-based user interfaces and Python/FastAPI Back End services.
• Design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and knowledge retrieval frameworks.
• Build and optimise vector databases, semantic search capabilities and embedding strategies.
• Develop agentic AI workflows, orchestration frameworks and multi-agent systems.
• Define and implement AI governance controls, guardrails and security patterns
• Drive initiatives to improve AI reliability, grounded responses and hallucination mitigation.
• Contribute to enterprise AI architecture, engineering standards and evaluation frameworks.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, prioritise and deliver new AI capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and support the ongoing development of AI engineering best practices.
• Support platform scalability, operational excellence and long-term AI adoption strategies.

About you

• Proven experience delivering production-grade AI and Generative AI solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience working with Large Language Models (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or similar).
• Experience designing and implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
• Knowledge of embeddings, vector databases, semantic search and knowledge retrieval platforms.
• Experience building Agentic AI solutions, multi-agent systems and orchestration frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, CrewAI or similar.
• Knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol) or comparable tool orchestration approaches.
• Strong Python development experience alongside React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Experience developing FastAPI services, APIs and distributed applications.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and scalable platform engineering.
• Experience working directly with senior stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
• Comfortable operating independently while influencing technical direction and engineering standards.

Desirable

• Experience implementing AI governance frameworks and responsible AI practices.
• Knowledge of AI guardrails, prompt injection protection and data leakage prevention.
• Experience with AI observability, evaluation frameworks and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Experience delivering AI platforms within Microsoft Azure environments.
• Knowledge of Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Foundry or related services.
• Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Previous experience mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions.
