Senior Java Developer - Outside IR35 - Up to £700 per day

We have partnered with a leader in the financial services sector who is looking for experienced Senior Java Engineers to join their Settlements team.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on developing and enhancing software supporting complex post-trade and settlement workflows. you'll work as part of an experienced engineering team, contributing to both new and existing systems within a fast-moving financial markets environment.

The Role

• Develop and maintain Server Side Java/JVM applications supporting settlement and post-trade processes.
• Build robust, scalable services using Spring and Spring Boot.
• Work across greenfield and brownfield development projects.
• Collaborate with engineers and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Contribute to technical design, development, testing and production delivery.
• Work with Kubernetes, event-driven architecture and cloud infrastructure, alongside primarily on-premise environments.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and take ownership through to resolution.
• Work comfortably with ambiguity, incomplete information and changing requirements.

Technical Skills

Essential:

• Strong commercial Java/JVM development experience.
• Strong Spring/Spring Boot experience.
• Experience developing Server Side applications in complex environments.
• Strong Linux experience.
• Experience working within financial services, trading or similarly complex transactional environments.
• Comfortable working hands-on with existing and new systems.

Desirable:

• Post-trade, settlements or financial markets experience.
• Experience with equities settlement; Fixed Income is a plus.
• Kubernetes and event-driven architecture.
• AWS and/or Azure.
• Angular, React, Redux or Redux Saga.
• Experience working with large and complex data sets.
• Familiarity with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Windsurf or Devin.

Financial Markets/Digital Assets

The team works on complex settlement and digital asset solutions, including post-trade settlement workflows and trading connectivity.

Relevant experience includes:

• Equities settlement; Fixed Income experience advantageous.
• ATS connectivity and FIX protocols/FIX engines.
• Blockchain/DeFi environments.
• EVM experience preferred, with Canton a strong advantage and Solana also relevant.
• Event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
