Technical Architect
  • Location: North Yorkshire/hybrid/home working

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Architect to join a UK-based IT architecture team. You will provide technical leadership and architectural direction across a broad IT environment, with a particular focus on infrastructure, cloud and security.

You will work closely with both technical and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust, scalable and secure technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and promote IT and architecture strategies across the organisation.

  • Provide technical architecture expertise, guidance and support, particularly across infrastructure and security.

  • Define technical solutions and architectural approaches for new projects and business capabilities.

  • Produce clear technical architecture designs, documentation and analysis.

  • Assess solution options and their financial implications.

  • Work with business and technology teams to design solutions aligned to strategic objectives.

  • Coordinate the implementation and evolution of technical architectures.

  • Support the evaluation and selection of technology products and standards.

  • Establish and maintain architecture standards, governance and best practices.

  • Review the existing IT environment, identify weaknesses and recommend improvements.

  • Support the resolution of complex operational and technical issues.

Technical Experience

We are looking for experience across a broad range of enterprise technology, including:

  • Infrastructure architecture and detailed design

  • Data centre architecture

  • Microsoft 365/Office 365

  • Identity and access management (IAM)

  • Authentication and authorisation

  • Cyber security

  • Cloud architecture

  • Resilience, business continuity and disaster recovery

  • IT architecture methodologies and governance

  • Application development methodologies

  • IT operations, service management and support

About You

You will be an experienced technical leader with strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to operate effectively across both technical and business environments.

You should be able to:

  • Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.

  • Evaluate new technologies and understand their potential application.

  • Assess the cost and financial impact of alternative technology solutions.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to different audiences.

  • Influence stakeholders and work collaboratively across teams.

  • Balance immediate delivery requirements with longer-term technology strategy.

  • Remain pragmatic and outcome-focused when evaluating technology and vendor options.

Additional Information

The role requires occasional travel to branch locations, distribution centres, data centres and support centres as required, but this is expected to be infrequent.
