AI Solution Architect - Outside IR35

We are looking for an AI Solution Architect to support a 12-week discovery programme focused on improving how regulatory, compliance and risk information can be accessed, connected and used across a large regulated organisation.

This is a hands-on architecture role. You will work across a complex Microsoft/Azure estate, understand how multiple systems of record connect today, and define the target solution architecture required to support a future regulatory intelligence capability.

The work will involve mapping the existing technology landscape, engaging directly with system and data owners, defining integration and onboarding requirements, and helping shape the future architecture across platform, data, security and controls.

The target concept is likely to include a knowledge graph or contextual data layer, with technologies such as Azure, Microsoft Graph, GraphRAG, Neo4j, vector databases and Azure OpenAI forming part of the discovery. Technology choices are not yet fixed.

What you will do

• Understand and map the current enterprise architecture across multiple systems of record
• Engage directly with IT owners, enterprise architects, data teams and other technical stakeholders
• Map existing integrations, data flows, technology stacks and system dependencies
• Understand a complex, potentially multi-tenant Microsoft environment
• Define how individual systems could be onboarded into the future architecture
• Translate business and regulatory use cases into technical capability requirements
• Define the target solution architecture and supporting technology roadmap
• Set architectural direction across integration, APIs, security, controls and resilience
• Work closely with data specialists shaping the future knowledge graph and intelligence layer
• Support a parallel technical proof of concept using RAG, vector or graph-based retrieval and agentic workflows
• Contribute to architecture and systems-integration sections of an RFI
• Review potential vendor solutions from an architectural and integration perspective
• Help define the path from discovery into implementation

What you will bring

• Strong enterprise and solution architecture experience in complex environments
• Deep Microsoft Azure experience
• Strong understanding of Microsoft enterprise ecosystems and multi-tenant environments
• Complex systems integration and API architecture experience
• Enterprise data architecture experience
• Strong understanding of security, controls, identity and access requirements
• Experience working with data platforms, infrastructure and integration layers
• Recent exposure to AI-enabled architectures, RAG, knowledge graphs, vector databases or similar approaches
• Ability to move comfortably between enterprise-level architecture and detailed system-level conversations
• Strong stakeholder skills across technical and business teams
• A genuinely hands-on approach, with the ability to get into the detail rather than operate purely at conceptual level

Experience within a large regulated organisation would be particularly valuable, including Financial Services, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Telecoms or Government.

Exposure to regulatory, compliance, risk or controls environments would also be highly relevant.

This is not an oversight architecture role. We need somebody who can roll their sleeves up, interrogate the current environment, work directly with technology owners and shape a practical target architecture that can move into delivery.
