Data Migration Engineer (Retail) at Morson Edge, South West London, £Contract Rate

Contract Description

We are looking for an experienced Data Migration Engineer to join a major retail-focused transformation programme on a contract basis, outside IR35. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong data professional with proven experience working across complex data migration and integration projects within the retail environment. You will play a key role in extracting, transforming, validating and migrating data between legacy and new platforms, ensuring data quality, integrity and reconciliation throughout the migration lifecycle.

The successful candidate will have strong experience working with SQL and relational databases, with the ability to analyse complex datasets, develop robust data transformation logic and investigate data discrepancies. Experience of designing and supporting ETL processes, data integrations and data quality frameworks will be important, as will the ability to work across multiple source systems and understand how data flows between operational, financial, sales, stock and CRM platforms. Experience with SQL Server, SSMS, Python, Redshift, BigQuery and AWS RDS would be highly relevant to the role.

Retail sector experience is particularly important for this assignment, ideally with exposure to sales, stock, product, finance, POS, supply chain or e-commerce data. You should be comfortable working with high-volume and complex datasets, identifying inconsistencies and ensuring that migrated data is accurately reconciled against legacy systems. Experience supporting retail platform implementations or migrations, including working with Oracle Retail, Microsoft Dynamics CRM/NAV or similar business-critical platforms, would be highly advantageous.

You will work closely with technical teams, business stakeholders and system owners to understand data requirements, map legacy data to target structures, support migration testing and resolve data quality issues. Strong stakeholder engagement skills are therefore essential, alongside the ability to document data processes, communicate technical findings clearly and work effectively within an Agile delivery environment. Previous experience leading or supporting master data initiatives, data audits, system integrations and reconciliation activities would be particularly valuable.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in SQL, ETL and data migration, together with experience using Python, APIs/JSON, data warehouses and business systems. Experience with tools such as GitHub, Jira, Postman and Microsoft Office would also be beneficial. NetSuite experience would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.

This role would suit a hands-on Data Migration Engineer who understands the complexities of retail data and can take ownership of migration activities from data discovery and mapping through to transformation, testing, reconciliation and successful cutover. If you have a strong track record delivering data migration or integration projects within retail and are available for a contract assignment outside IR35, we would be keen to hear from you.
