User Researcher | Outside IR35

We are looking for an experienced User Researcher to support the continued development of an innovative digital search product. You will work alongside product, business and technical specialists to understand how users interact with the service, test new ideas and ensure future improvements are grounded in clear research evidence.

The Role

You will lead research activities throughout the product life cycle, using a blend of qualitative and quantitative methods to uncover user needs, behaviours and challenges. Your findings will directly influence product priorities, backlog development and the exploration of new applications for AI-enabled and semantic search technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver research using interviews, surveys, diary studies and usability testing.
  • Recruit and engage users from across the organisation to understand their experiences and real-world needs.
  • Analyse research data and translate findings into practical recommendations, user stories and backlog items.
  • Work closely with the Product Manager and delivery team to shape priorities and product enhancements.
  • Investigate potential new use cases for semantic search, assessing user value, business benefits and suitability.
  • Present evidence and research findings clearly to product, business and technical stakeholders.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience as a User Researcher within a digital or technology environment.
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques.
  • Hands-on experience conducting user interviews, surveys, diary studies and usability testing.
  • Ability to synthesise complex findings into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Experience converting user needs and feedback into user stories or product requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Designers and technical teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Research experience involving artificial intelligence, search technology, data products or other emerging technologies.
  • Exposure to semantic search or knowledge-discovery platforms.
  • Previous experience working within a complex, regulated or public-sector organisation.
