The Role

As a Migration Consultant, you'll play a key role in modernising enterprise Java applications, leading the migration of existing WebSphere environments to AWS ROSA/OpenShift. You'll assess application portfolios, develop migration strategies, and drive the containerisation and deployment of Java/Jakarta EE applications, leveraging AWS, OpenShift, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and AI-powered development tools to deliver secure, scalable, cloud-native solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of enterprise Java applications from IBM WebSphere to AWS ROSA/OpenShift.
• Assess existing application portfolios, dependencies, Middleware integrations, and migration complexity.
• Develop and document migration strategies, including replatforming, refactoring, and rearchitecting approaches.
• Containerise Java/Jakarta EE applications using Docker or Podman and deploy workloads to OpenShift/ROSA.
• Develop Helm charts, OpenShift manifests, and CI/CD pipelines to support automated application deployments.
• Modernise WebSphere-specific configurations, including JNDI, JMS, connection pools, and security configurations, for cloud-native environments.
• Provision and configure AWS infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Leverage AI-powered tools such as AWS Kiro and Amazon Q Developer to accelerate code refactoring, testing, and migration activities.
• Establish automated testing and validation processes to ensure functional parity between source and target environments.
• Collaborate directly with client stakeholders and technical teams, providing guidance on migration best practices and cloud-native application development.
• Produce migration playbooks, runbooks, architecture decision records, and technical documentation while supporting knowledge transfer.

About You

You will be an experienced Migration Consultant who is passionate about delivering complex enterprise application modernisation projects. You'll have strong hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere, Java/Jakarta EE, OpenShift or Kubernetes, and AWS, with a proven ability to migrate and modernise Legacy applications. You'll enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working closely with clients, and thrive in a consulting environment where you can make a real impact through modern cloud and AI-powered technologies.

Key Requirements:

• 5+ years' experience with IBM WebSphere (Traditional, Liberty or ND).
• Proven Java EE/Jakarta EE application migration and modernisation experience.
• Strong OpenShift/Kubernetes experience; ROSA preferred.
• Practical AWS experience across core cloud services.
• Hands-on Docker/Podman, Helm and OpenShift deployments.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Tekton or ArgoCD.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
• WebSphere configuration experience, including JNDI, JMS, connection pools and security.
• Strong client-facing communication and enterprise migration experience.
• Experience with AI development tools such as AWS Kiro or Amazon Q Developer is advantageous.
• German-speaking candidates preferred.
