Contract Description

Software Engineer – Data Platform | Contract

Outside IR35 | £600>£800/day | 6 months initially | London / Hybrid

TypeScript | Python | Airflow | Azure | Node.js | AI/ML

We're looking for a couple of experienced engineers with a blend of software and data engineering skills for an initial 6-month contract, working across the data platform behind a global investment product.

The challenge is messy, fragmented investment data coming from multiple external systems, administrators and formats.

The assignment spans the full journey of that data: ingesting it, modelling and reconciling it into a reliable data layer, then building the APIs that make it available across the wider product.

The project:

There's a significant amount of engineering work underway across the data platform, with contractors being brought in to help deliver across pipelines, data models, storage and access APIs.

Pragmatic, low-ego engineering team with strong technical standards and clearly scoped work.

Scope:

  • Build and orchestrate ingestion pipelines for complex structured and unstructured data
  • Design scalable data models across relational, NoSQL, blob and Delta architectures
  • Transform and reconcile inconsistent data from multiple external sources
  • Build APIs and data services over the resulting data
  • Improve data quality, lineage, observability and reliability
  • Investigate data problems at source and implement long-term fixes
  • Help develop AI/ML capabilities across ingestion, reconciliation and reporting

Technology environment

Core: TypeScript, Node.js, Python, SQL

Data: Airflow, Delta Lake, relational & NoSQL, Azure Data Lake

Cloud: Azure, AKS, Docker, Terraform, Azure DevOps

AI/ML: LLM workflows, document intelligence, vector databases and embeddings

We're looking for strong engineers who can operate across both software and data engineering.

You'll need solid experience building production data pipelines and data models, while being comfortable building the services and APIs around them. Strong TypeScript and/or Python experience is important, alongside experience working with complex production data.

Investment experience isn't required.
