Senior Security Consultant, £600 per day outside IR35

Bench IT require an experienced Senior Security Consultant to assist on a large project starting ASAP. The Security Consultant is responsible for identifying, triaging, and responding to security events, while providing ongoing security oversight across the organisation's systems, projects, and supplier landscape. This role supports the wider security assurance and risk management function, plays a key part in privacy impact assessments, and helps ensure security and compliance requirements are Embedded and maintained across the business.
Please note this role is working 50% onsite for example: 2-3 days per week onsite or 1 week onsite/1 week remote.
- Security Triage - Monitor security alerts and events, assessing severity and prioritising response. Conduct initial investigation and triage of potential security incidents. Escalate confirmed incidents to the relevant response team with clear supporting detail. Maintain accurate incident logs and contribute to post-incident reviews
- Security Oversight - Maintain ongoing visibility of the organisation's security posture across systems, projects, and third parties. Monitor compliance with security policies, standards, and controls on a continuous basis. Provide regular oversight reporting to management on security status, open risks, and emerging threats. Act as a point of escalation and governance check across projects to ensure security requirements aren't bypassed or deprioritised. Track remediation of identified gaps through to closure, holding owners accountable to agreed timelines
- Security Assurance - Support security assurance activities across projects, systems, and third-party engagements. Review technical designs and changes against security policies and standards. Identify control gaps and work with stakeholders to drive remediation. Contribute to internal audits and compliance checks against security frameworks (eg, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials)
- Privacy Impact Assessment Support - Support the business in completing Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs/DPIAs) for new projects and systems. Identify data protection risks and work with stakeholders to define mitigations. Liaise with data protection/privacy leads to ensure assessments meet regulatory requirements. Maintain documentation and evidence trails for completed assessments
- Risk Assessments - Conduct security risk assessments across systems, suppliers, and projects. Identify, score, and document risks, working with stakeholders to agree mitigation plans. Track risk remediation progress and escalate overdue or high-severity items
Requirements
- Proven experience in a security analyst or similar security operations role
- Working knowledge of security frameworks and standards (ISO 27001, NIST, Cyber Essentials)
- Understanding of data protection principles (UK GDPR) and PIA/DPIA processes
- Experience conducting risk assessments and managing findings through to closure
- Relevant certifications desirable (CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent)
