Senior Network Engineer, £600 per day outside IR35

6 months initially, Jersey (Channel Islands)

Bench IT require an experienced Senior Network Engineer to assist on a large project starting ASAP to deliver a Network Solution. The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, delivery, and support of connectivity solutions across the organisation's network estate. This role owns network and Firewall change implementation, manages infrastructure dependencies across projects, and leads technical onboarding for suppliers connecting into the environment.

Please note this role is working 50% onsite for example: 2-3 days per week onsite or 1 week onsite/1 week remote.

  • Connectivity Requirements - Gather, assess, and translate business connectivity requirements into technical designs. Design and implement LAN/WAN, WiFi, and site-to-site connectivity solutions. Ensure connectivity solutions meet capacity, resilience, and security requirements. Provide technical input into new site setups, office moves, and infrastructure projects
  • Network and Firewall Changes - Plan, test, and implement network and Firewall changes in line with change management processes. Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and related network hardware. Carry out Firewall rule reviews, updates, and rationalisation. Ensure all changes are documented, tested, and rolled back safely where required
  • Infrastructure Dependencies - Identify and manage network dependencies across infrastructure and application projects. Work closely with infrastructure, security, and delivery teams to sequence work correctly. Flag dependency risks early and coordinate resolution with relevant stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date network diagrams and documentation reflecting current dependencies
  • Supplier Technical Onboarding - Lead technical onboarding for new suppliers requiring network access or connectivity. Assess supplier connectivity requirements against security and compliance standards. Coordinate Firewall rules, VPNs, and access provisioning for third-party connections. Act as technical point of contact for suppliers during onboarding and ongoing support

Requirements

  • Proven experience in network engineering, including Firewall and routing/switching configuration
  • Strong hands-on experience with at least two of the following Cisco/Fortinet/Palo Alto/Juniper
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and change control processes
  • Experience managing third-party/supplier connectivity and onboarding
  • CCNP + Certficied - Desirable
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability under pressure
  • Clear communicator, able to explain technical detail to non-technical stakeholders
  • Methodical and thorough with documentation and change control
  • Comfortable working across multiple projects and competing priorities
