ClickHouse Solutions Architect - Contract at Xpertise, Remote united Kingdom, 3 Months, £900-£1k per day

£900 - £1k per day

Contract Description

Remote | Initial 3 months + extensions once impletmentation timelines agreed | £900-£1000 per day | Outside IR35

We are looking for an experienced ClickHouse Solutions Architect to support the design and implementation of a greenfield, enterprise-scale observability platform for a global banking client.

This is a genuine greenfield engagement with significant scale and complexity. You will take a leading role in defining the ClickHouse architecture from first principles, before helping prove and implement the solution.

The environment

The platform will provide a central repository for logs, metrics and traces, with requirements including:

  • Sustained ingestion of approximately 3 million events per second
  • Around 1,000 concurrent users and hundreds of Real Time dashboards
  • Hundreds of application tenants requiring workload isolation, throttling and quotas
  • OpenTelemetry-native architecture
  • High-volume hot storage with longer-term object storage tiering
  • Enterprise-grade resilience, security, DR and governance

What we're looking for

This is not simply a Data Architect role where ClickHouse is one technology amongst many. We need someone with deep, hands-on experience designing and operating ClickHouse at significant production scale.

Ideally you will have experience across:

  • Distributed ClickHouse architecture, including cluster topology, sharding and replication
  • MergeTree engines, partitioning, primary/sort keys, projections and materialized views
  • High-throughput streaming ingestion, ideally using Kafka and/or ClickPipes
  • Query optimisation and performance benchmarking
  • Large-scale observability or time-series workloads
  • OpenTelemetry, particularly logs, metrics and traces
  • Multi-tenancy, workload isolation, quotas and resource management
  • Object storage and hot/cold data tiering
  • Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD
  • Sizing, capacity planning and cost modelling

You should be comfortable operating as both an architect and hands-on technical authority - working directly with client stakeholders, making architectural decisions, building a reference environment and validating the design through real-world performance testing.

Location & travel

The engagement will begin with an approximately 2-3 week discovery and architecture workshop overseas, working alongside our technical lead and the client's engineering teams.

All travel and accommodation will be fully expensed.

Following the initial workshop, the engagement will move to a remote delivery model.

Contract

  • Initial 3-month contract
  • Strong potential for extension into the implementation phase once the architecture is agreed
  • £900-£1000 per day, depending on experience
  • Outside IR35
  • Remote following the initial overseas workshop

If you have built and scaled complex ClickHouse environments and are interested in owning the architecture of a genuinely large-scale greenfield platform, please apply with an up-to-date CV.
