AI Engineer Day Rate: £550 - £600 per day

Contract Length: 6 months Outside IR35

Location Manchester (2 days onsite per week)

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global organisation seeking an AI Engineer to act as a hands-on, technical point of contact for AI capability. You will unblock staff at every level of AI fluency-from everyday users to programmers-turning ad-hoc AI usage into reusable, well-governed capability.

This role provides the technical depth behind the AI Adoption team's training programme. It also gives the business critical visibility into how AI tools are actually being utilised across the organisation.

Scope of Work

Helpdesk & Technical Unblocking

• Act as the first port of call for staff stuck on AI builds.
• Configure Custom GPTs and debug SQL/formula logic with Claude.
• Structure new AI use cases from scratch.
• Support everyday business users needing low-jargon help.
• Support technical programmers needing deep engineering, prompting, and workflow support.

Use Case Development & Measurement

• Work with champions to design, build, and test advanced agentic workflows.
• Maintain a working log of key use cases to feed the best-practice repository.
• Identify and implement an AI usage/cost FinOps measurement tool.
• Establish baseline tracking to support onboarding, offboarding, and tool renegotiations.

Knowledge-Sharing & Coordination

• Turn recurring problems into reusable skills, templates, and repeatable processes.
• Align with the AI Projects team roadmap to prevent duplicate work.
• Connect users doing similar work to enable smart cooperation.
• Flag bottom-up use cases that could become larger, centrally owned opportunities.
• Advise the AI Forum on new features within ChatGPT and Anthropic Claude.

Experience required

• AI Expertise: Deep, front-foot experience utilising OpenAI and Anthropic tools to build solutions.
• Technical Baseline: Practical knowledge of Excel, SQL, and Databricks functionality.
• Mixed-Skill Training: Experience supporting diverse audiences-patient with beginners, credible with engineers.
• FinOps Capability: Familiarity with AI usage/cost tracking tools (or ability to pick one up quickly).
• Compliance Mindset: Comfort working in a regulated financial services environment with solid data handling awareness..
