We are currently looking for an experienced Microsoft Fabric Data Architect / Lead for an Outside IR35 contract opportunity. Location: Manchester.
Working arrangement: Hybrid – two days per week in the Manchester office
Contract: Outside IR35
The client requires a senior Microsoft Fabric specialist who can assess the current environment, strengthen its architecture and governance, implement practical improvements, and build a well-controlled and sustainable internal capability.
The successful individual will evaluate what is currently in place, define the target environment, implement the necessary improvements and support the development of the internal team. The anticipated scope includes:
• Reviewing the existing Microsoft Fabric environment, data lake and associated datasets
• Assessing the current architecture and identifying technical, governance and control gaps
• Reviewing how data is acquired, ingested, stored, transformed and made available to business users
• Establishing appropriate governance across data quality, ownership, access, security and ongoing platform management
• Defining clear standards and controls for the continued development of the Microsoft Fabric environment
• Identifying opportunities to automate data acquisition, ingestion and movement
• Ensuring the environment is structured to support the internal insights team and wider business stakeholders
• Providing guidance on how new datasets should be assessed, introduced and managed
• Working closely with the existing technology, data and insights teams
• Supporting and developing a permanent Data Engineer who has strong general data and Python experience but limited direct Microsoft Fabric exposure
• Transferring knowledge and capability throughout the assignment
• Completing a structured handover so the permanent resource and internal team can manage the environment confidently The successful individual will ideally bring:
• Strong, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience
• A solid background in data engineering and data architecture
• Experience designing, reviewing or improving data lake environments
• Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, ownership, security and access controls
• Experience across data ingestion, transformation, automation and distribution
• The ability to assess an existing environment quickly and translate findings into a practical delivery plan • Previous experience mentoring and developing permanent team members
• A delivery-focused approach, with the ability to create a sustainable solution and strengthen internal capability
