About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Scala Developer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering scalable, cloud-native applications and APIs. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring developers, and driving best practices across software delivery.

You will play a key role in leading the design and development of mission-critical Back End services, working closely with architects, product owners, and delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and delivery of scalable Back End applications using Scala
• Architect and develop RESTful services and microservices using the Play Framework
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams
• Drive engineering best practices, code quality, and CI/CD adoption
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical solutions and delivery roadmaps
• Participate in architectural decisions and technology strategy
• Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards
• Support agile delivery practices and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience developing applications with Scala
• Proven experience building APIs using the Play Framework
• Demonstrable experience in a Lead Developer, Technical Lead, or similar leadership role
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices
• Strong knowledge of software architecture and design patterns
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
• Ability to mentor developers and lead technical discussions
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Akka/Pekko ecosystems
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Docker and Kubernetes experience
• Experience working within highly regulated or enterprise environments
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies
