Risk Developer / Quant Developer - London (Hybrid) | Outside IR35 | Commodities
I'm working with a commodities trading firm that's making a significant investment in its pricing and risk technology, and they're looking for an experienced Python Developer to help build the next generation risk platform.
You'll be joining at the early stages of a greenfield programme, helping to design and develop the core services that convert market data into pricing, valuations and risk calculations used across the trading business.
You'll work closely with traders, quantitative analysts and technology teams, taking ownership of complex engineering challenges while helping shape the architecture of a platform that's built for scale.
The opportunity
- Build core pricing and risk engines using modern Python.
- Develop the technology behind commodity curve generation and valuation.
- Design scalable, distributed services capable of processing large volumes of market data and risk calculations.
- Improve the performance of pricing and risk analytics, supporting the move towards more real-time risk capabilities.
- Build cloud-native solutions using AWS and distributed computing technologies such as Ray.
- Work directly with front-office stakeholders to understand business problems and deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Influence architecture, engineering standards and the long-term technical direction of the platform.
- Make use of AI development tools to improve engineering productivity and delivery.
What they're looking for
- Strong commercial Python development experience.
- Experience building pricing, valuation, risk or quantitative trading applications.
- Knowledge of commodity markets, ideally across Gas, Power or Oil.
- Experience with distributed or parallel computing technologies (Ray would be ideal, although similar frameworks are also of interest).
- Hands-on experience building and deploying applications within AWS.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, CI/CD and scalable system design.
- Experience building high-performance backend platforms capable of handling complex calculations.
- Someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems, taking ownership and contributing ideas rather than simply delivering against a specification.
