Data Platform Architect - ASAP START - OUTSIDE IR35 - SC CLEARED - UK Central Government

What you'll be working towards:

We're looking for an experienced Data Architect to provide architectural oversight and governance across an established government data platform. This is not a greenfield architecture role. The platform is already designed and in delivery, and you'll work closely with delivery teams to ensure solutions remain aligned to architectural standards, governance requirements, and GDS principles.You'll act as a trusted advisor to both technical teams and stakeholders, supporting design reviews, architectural assurance, data governance, and platform evolution.

What you'll be doing:

• Provide architectural oversight and assurance across a large-scale government data platform.
• Support development teams by reviewing designs and ensuring alignment with agreed architecture.
• Create and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Review and sign off data architecture artefacts, integrations and design decisions.
• Ensure data governance, data quality and metadata standards are adhered to.
• Support data integration, ingestion and reporting processes across Azure and AWS platforms.
• Work closely with architects, developers, product teams and stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Contribute to Architecture Review Boards, Design Authority forums and governance activities.
• Support the programme through GDS assessments and compliance activities.
• Identify risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement within the data landscape.
• Produce clear architecture documentation, standards and design artefacts.

About you:

• Proven experience as a Data Architect, Lead Data Architect or Data Architecture Consultant.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, governance, integration and architecture best practices.
• Experience working on large-scale data platforms within public sector or regulated environments.
• Azure data platform knowledge, ideally including Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory.
• Experience supporting architecture governance and assurance activities.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to review technical designs and provide architectural guidance to development teams.
• Experience producing architecture artefacts and technical documentation.
• Central Government experience.
• Experience working on GDS-aligned programmes.
• Knowledge of AWS-based data services.
• Experience supporting Design Authority or Architecture Review Boards.
• Understanding of reporting and analytics platforms such as Tableau.
• Active SC Clearance.
