Principal/Lead Azure DevOps Engineer - 6 months - Fully Remote - £700/day - Outside IR35

We are seeking an exceptional, top-tier Azure DevOps Engineer to join on a 6-month, fully remote contract. This is a senior, high-impact role for someone who doesn't just execute DevOps practices but sets the standard for them, designing enterprise-grade CI/CD architecture, driving platform strategy, and mentoring engineering teams through complex, large-scale cloud transformations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and own enterprise-scale CI/CD pipeline strategy across Azure DevOps, driving standards and best practice across multiple teams
• Design and implement advanced Infrastructure as Code frameworks using Terraform or Bicep, including reusable modules, policy-as-code, and drift detection
• Lead the design of secure, scalable deployment architectures across multi-environment, multi-region Azure estates
• Establish enterprise-grade observability strategy, full-stack monitoring, alerting, and performance visibility across pipelines and production systems
• Drive DevSecOps maturity, embedding security scanning, compliance gates, and governance directly into the delivery pipeline
• Own incident response and root-cause resolution for complex pipeline and deployment failures at scale
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to engineering teams, setting DevOps standards and raising the bar across the organisation
• Partner directly with architects and senior stakeholders to shape platform and cloud strategy

What You Will Bring:

• 10+ years in IT infrastructure/engineering, with 7+ years specifically in DevOps and Azure at an expert level
• Deep, demonstrable expertise in Azure DevOps, advanced Git workflows (branching strategies, GitOps), and enterprise CI/CD design
• Advanced containerisation and orchestration experience, Docker and Kubernetes at production scale, including cluster architecture and multi-tenancy
• Proven track record architecting IaC at scale (Terraform/Bicep), including module design and policy enforcement
• Strong DevSecOps background, security scanning, secrets management, compliance-as-code
• Required: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert certification
• Highly desirable: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent architecture-level certification
• Demonstrable experience mentoring engineers and influencing DevOps culture at an organisational level
• Excellent stakeholder management,comfortable operating at architect/leadership level, not just delivery level
