Rate: £650-£725 per day (Outside IR35)

A leading consultancy client is seeking an experienced Release & Instance Manager to take ownership of release delivery and environment governance across a complex enterprise IT landscape.
You'll ensure changes are effectively planned, tested, approved and safely deployed across development, test, UAT, pre-production and production environments. You'll also oversee the organisation's ServiceNow instance strategy, ensuring environments remain stable, secure and ready to support programme delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end release process across production and non-production environments.
- Define release cycles, governance checkpoints, submission deadlines and deployment windows.
- Maintain release calendars aligned with business priorities and change schedules.
- Coordinate complex releases involving multiple technical teams, platforms and dependencies.
- Chair release planning, readiness and go/no-go meetings.
- Ensure releases have received all required testing, security, architecture and business approvals.
- Confirm appropriate implementation, validation, rollback and recovery plans are in place.
- Identify and mitigate release risks, conflicts, environment constraints and cross-project dependencies.
- Own the ServiceNow instance strategy across development, test, UAT, training, pre-production and production.
- Coordinate environment refreshes, cloning, patching and life cycle activities.
- Maintain accurate environment documentation and ensure instances remain stable, correctly configured and available.
- Develop release dashboards and KPIs while driving improvement through automation and standardisation.
Essential experience
- Proven Release, Environment or Instance Management experience within a large enterprise IT organisation.
- Experience coordinating complex infrastructure or platform releases across multiple teams.
- Strong understanding of ITIL Change, Release and Configuration Management.
- ServiceNow Change and Release Management experience.
- Experience within regulated or highly governed enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Strong planning, risk management and stakeholder communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate and influence technical teams without direct authority.
Desirable experience
- Knowledge of Azure, AWS or hybrid-cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and release automation.
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience working within Agile and DevOps environments.
- ITIL Foundation/ITIL 4 or a relevant project management qualification.
