Systems Engineer
Outside IR35
Rate: £65-£70 ltd ph.

Skills and experience
• Strong experience of the engineering lifecycle within a complex or highly regulated environment (defence, aerospace, nuclear, rail, etc.).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesise large volumes of technical information into summarised outputs.
• Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills suited to mixed technical audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively within complex, cross functional engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of requirements engineering, using a Requirements Management tool such as IBM DOORS.
• Familiarity with MBSE principles, modelling language (e.g. SysML) and modelling tools such as Enterprise Architect.
• An academic qualification to at least degree level in Engineering, Physics, Computing or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Key responsibilities may include
Model Based Systems Engineering & Architecture

• Develop and maintain system-level architectures using MBSE methods and model-based artefacts, within environments such as Enterprise Architect, utilising SysML.
• Produce system models, interface definitions and design artefacts that ensure coherence across software, electronics and mechanical domains.
Requirements Capture & Management
• Capture and analyse stakeholder needs, derive system/subsystem requirements and maintain requirement specifications using IBM DOORS (9.x/NG).
• Ensure requirements are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound (SMART) and traceable throughout the engineering lifecycle. Verification, Validation & Compliance
• Lead planning and execution of Verification & Validation (V&V), ensuring requirements are demonstrably met.
• Ensure alignment with appropriate Standards (e.g., DEF STAN, MIL STD), Legislation and internal engineering processes.
• Ensure compliance and certification activities enable the delivery of systems. Collaboration, Integration & Communication
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful system integration and timely issue resolution.
• Present technical concepts, trade studies and findings at internal and external design reviews.
• Produce high quality documentation using company standards and templates.
• Work closely with the System Design Authority, Engineering Manager and wider project teams to ensure cohesive delivery.
