Design Engineer

Location: Glasgow
Contract: Outside IR35

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex network infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed engineering documentation, creating network topology designs and supporting Project Engineers throughout the project lifecycle. This role would suit someone with strong technical knowledge of legacy network technologies alongside modern IP networking experience.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed engineering and design documentation from high-level project information
• Create and maintain network topology diagrams
• Manage design documentation from initial development through to completion
• Provide technical input into change requests and project updates
• Maintain accurate network records
• Support Project Engineers with technical queries and delivery challenges
• Ensure designs comply with relevant technical standards and project requirements

Essential experience

• Strong practical knowledge of SDH and PDH technologies
• Experience with IP configuration, routing and switching
• Hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches
• Ability to translate technical requirements into clear engineering documentation
• Experience producing network diagrams using Microsoft Visio
• Strong attention to detail and technical problem-solving skills

Desirable experience

• Nokia 7705 SAR
• OTN XTRAN platforms
• Cisco Prime Infrastructure
• AVARA PDH/SDH devices
• Orion Modems
• Electricity substation communications equipment
• DC power systems within network environments

A relevant degree or equivalent industry experience would be beneficial. Cisco, Nokia or other relevant technical certifications would also be advantageous.
