£525 per day

Contract Description

We're looking for a BI Lead to take ownership of the reporting and analytics discipline within a broader enterprise data programme. This role will drive the transition from fragmented, tactical reporting towards scalable, governed, self-service data products and semantic models that enable consistent, enterprise-wide insight.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and lead the BI vision aligned to the wider data programme and business strategy
  • Establish BI best practices, standards, and governance across reporting and analytics
  • Act as the senior point of accountability for reporting outputs and analytics quality

Modern BI Architecture & Delivery

  • Lead the transition from tactical reporting (eg silver-layer driven reports) to product-led BI, underpinned by curated data products and semantic models
  • Design and oversee the implementation of scalable, reusable semantic layers to support enterprise reporting
  • Ensure alignment between data engineering outputs (eg gold layer/data products) and BI consumption

Self-Service Enablement

  • Establish a self-service BI capability that enables business teams to access trusted, governed data
  • Define and implement operating models for federated reporting (central vs domain ownership)
  • Drive adoption of BI tools and ensure consistent usage patterns across the organisation

Governance & Quality

  • Implement robust governance across metrics, definitions, and reporting standards
  • Ensure consistency of KPIs and business logic across all reports and dashboards
  • Introduce monitoring and quality controls to maintain trust in data and analytics outputs

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with senior business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and priorities
  • Translate business requirements into scalable BI solutions (avoiding one-off or tactical builds)
  • Act as a bridge between business, data engineering, and architecture teams

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor BI developers and analysts within the programme
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and ways of working for the BI capability
  • Build a high-performing reporting and analytics function

Key Outcomes

  • Transition from fragmented, tactical reports to enterprise-grade reporting built on governed semantic models
  • Establishment of a scalable BI operating model supporting both central and domain-led use cases
  • Increased adoption of self-service analytics, reducing dependency on ad hoc report builds
  • Consistent, trusted KPIs and reporting across the organisation
  • Improved speed to insight, enabling better and faster business decision-making

Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience leading BI/reporting functions within enterprise data transformation programmes
  • Proven track record of implementing modern BI architectures (semantic layers, data products, self-service models)
  • Deep expertise in PowerBI, Fabric and data modelling principles
  • Strong understanding of medallion architectures (bronze/silver/gold) and how BI should consume from curated layers
  • Experience establishing governance frameworks for metrics, definitions, and reporting standards
  • Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to influence at senior levels
