Network Engineer (Field / Dispatch Support – Firewall Migration)


Location: Lerwick, Scotland (Onsite)


Employment Type: Freelance / B2B Contract (Outside IR35)


Rate: GBP 200 per day (All-inclusive)


Dispatch Support (On Demand Ticket Based Work)


Schedule: Standard Business Hours (Monday – Friday | 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM)


Project Overview


We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to provide onsite Dispatch / Smart Hands & Feet Support during a customer firewall migration project. The engineer will be responsible for the physical installation of firewall appliances, onsite support throughout the migration window, and coordination with the remote implementation team to ensure a smooth deployment.

Immediate requirement: Support is primarily required on 2nd and 3rd July for the Lerwick site.


Key Responsibilities

Provide onsite Smart Hands & Feet support during firewall migration activities.

Install and rack firewall appliances according to customer and project guidelines.

Perform hardware mounting, cabling, power connections, and basic connectivity checks.

Coordinate with remote Network Engineers throughout the implementation.

Remain onsite during the maintenance window to assist with troubleshooting and implementation tasks.

Verify physical connections, LEDs, and equipment status before and after migration.

Support basic network patching, cable management, and equipment labeling.

Escalate any hardware or site-related issues promptly.

Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with customer security, safety, and change management procedures.


Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a Network Engineer or Field Network Support Engineer.

Experience providing onsite Dispatch / Smart Hands support in enterprise environments.

Hands-on experience installing network hardware in racks.

Familiarity with firewall deployments and migration activities.


Experience working with network devices such as:

Firewalls

Routers

Switches

Patch panels

Network cabling

Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing, switching, and network connectivity.

Ability to follow implementation plans and instructions from remote engineering teams.

Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting enterprise firewall implementations (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco, Check Point, or similar).

Knowledge of data centre or enterprise network environments.

Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, NSE, PCNSA, or equivalent are an advantage.
