Interim vCISO - Fractional at Synapri, United Kingdom, £Contract Rate

My Client is a leading private healthcare provider, and is seeking an experienced Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) to support and enhance their cyber security, risk, and compliance function. This is a high-impact, part-time contract role (outside IR35), working closely with senior leadership to strengthen the organisation’s security posture within a complex, highly regulated environment.

The Role

As vCISO, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering the organisation’s cyber security strategy. This position combines hands-on technical delivery with strategic oversight, ensuring the business remains secure, compliant, and resilient when handling sensitive data.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading cyber security strategy and governance
• Driving Cyber Essentials certification (and ongoing compliance)
• Managing risk, audit, and regulatory requirements
• Ensuring robust data protection and information security practices
• Supporting technical teams with hands-on implementation of security controls
• Acting as the senior security advisor to stakeholders across the business
• Contributing to a scale-up or greenfield environment, building capability from the ground up
• Managing a small team.

Key Requirements

We’re looking for a well-rounded security professional with a strong blend of technical expertise and governance experience:

• Proven experience operating as a CISO, vCISO, or Head of Security
• Strong background in risk management, compliance, and governance frameworks
• Demonstrable experience delivering Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus
• ISO 27001, Global Risk and Compliance.
• Hands-on experience implementing security controls and frameworks
• Strong understanding of data security, particularly within complex or regulated environments (e.g. healthcare, life sciences, fintech)
• Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a lean environment
• Strong technical cyber security knowledge and capability
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
