Cloud Operations Engineer (Azure) | 3 months initial
London | Hybrid - 2 Days Office Based | Outside IR35 | £350-400 p/d
We're working with a leading UK financial services technology business, one of the most recognised names in the sector, on the lookout for a hands-on Cloud Operations Engineer to join their infrastructure team on a contract basis.
This is a strictly operational role. No architecture, no greenfield design, this is about keeping production environments stable, secure, and performant in a fast-paced, regulated environment. If you thrive on BAU ops, incident response, and continuous improvement of monitoring and resilience, this one's worth a look.
What you'll be doing:
Operating and supporting Azure production and non-production environments, heavy focus on compute, virtual networking, and storage. Acting as 1st and 2nd line of defence for platform and application issues, with participation in an out-of-hours on-call rotation for P1/P2 incidents. Executing approved infrastructure changes under strict change management controls and supporting CI/CD deployments. Providing operational support for Microsoft SQL Server, health checks, job monitoring, basic triage, backup verification. Owning and optimising monitoring tooling (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Datadog or similar) to reduce alert noise and catch genuine service-impacting issues. Supporting compliance and audit activity (ISO and regulatory assurance) and contributing to DR failover testing and runbook validation.
What we're looking for:
Proven hands-on Azure production experience, Virtual Machines, Azure Kubernetes Service or Container instances, Load Balancers, VNets, NSGs, and routing. Strong Windows Server administration and solid networking fundamentals. Comfortable with SQL Server at an operational support level (not a DBA role). Experience executing and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation. Proficiency with Azure-native observability tooling, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights or equivalent third-party tools such as Datadog. A disciplined approach to change management and access control, ideally gained in a regulated environment.
