Location: Yeovil / Bristol / Luton (primarily onsite)

Contract Length: 12 months

Day Rate: (Outside IR35)

Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced SolarWinds Subject Matter Expert (SME)to support the implementation, optimisation, and ongoing enhancement of monitoring solutions within a classified Defence supply chain environment.

This is a hands-on role suited to a skilled engineer with strong IT Operations experience, comfortable working onsite in secure environments and collaborating across infrastructure, network, and security teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of SolarWinds platforms (including Orion, NPM, SAM and NTA)
  • Configure and maintain end-to-end monitoring solutions across infrastructure, networks, and applications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance, availability, and monitoring issues
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, alerts, and reporting aligned to operational requirements
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance visibility, efficiency, and reliability
  • Work collaboratively with IT Operations, Network, and Security teams in a highly regulated environment
  • Ensure all solutions comply with Defence and classified environment standards
  • Produce documentation and support knowledge transfer and operational handover

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a SolarWinds SME / Engineer
  • Strong technical expertise across:
  • SolarWinds Orion Platform
  • Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
  • Server & Application Monitor (SAM)
  • NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA)
  • Experience working in IT Operations environments, ideally within Defence, Aerospace, or other secure sectors
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across network, server, and application layers
  • Experience working in security-cleared or classified environments
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in secure location

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with scripting or automation (PowerShell, Python)
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and service management practices
  • Understanding of cybersecurity considerations within monitoring tools
  • Previous experience within the Defence supply chain

Due to the classified nature of the environment, this role requires predominantly onsite working at one of the following locations:

  • Yeovil
  • Bristol
  • Luton
