About The Role

Hays are now looking for an Oracle Lead Developer for one of our local clients based in Glasgow. This is a contract position lasting six months or longer, offering an excellent opportunity to lead critical database development initiatives within a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing high-quality Oracle database solutions, primarily focusing on Oracle 19c. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of projects, collaborating closely with stakeholders, and mentoring junior developers to ensure best practices are followed throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience as an Oracle Developer, particularly with Oracle 19c. Advanced proficiency in PL/SQL development, including procedures, packages, functions, and views, is essential. You should have a proven track record of leading development efforts or managing small teams, demonstrating strong leadership capabilities. Familiarity with creating detailed technical documentation such as Technical Design Documents (TDDs) and a solid understanding of database performance tuning and optimization are required. Experience with version control tools like Git, SVN, or PVCS, and project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence, is highly desirable. Additional exposure to Oracle Forms/Reports (D2K) or Oracle Hub, along with knowledge of AWS, explain plans, and reporting tools, will be considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities for this role include leading the analysis, design, and development of Oracle database solutions, primarily using Oracle 19c. You will develop and optimize complex PL/SQL code, ensuring efficient and maintainable solutions. Collaborating closely with architects and business stakeholders, you will define technical solutions that align with organizational goals. Producing and maintaining clear Technical Design Documents (TDDs) is vital to ensure consistent development practices. You will lead code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure adherence to best practices throughout the development process.

Ownership of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from design through testing and deployment is expected, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions within deadlines. Acting as a key communication point, you will coordinate effectively across development teams, project managers, and business analysts to ensure project requirements are met. Your technical expertise will contribute to project planning and decision-making, providing valuable insights into design options and potential challenges.

Mentoring junior and mid-level developers will be a significant part of your role, fostering a collaborative team environment and supporting skill development. You will also support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and optimization tasks to enhance database efficiency and reliability.
