We're supporting a major cloud transformation programme and are looking for an experienced API Architect to help modernise a critical enterprise platform.

This role is focused on transforming a large API estate, migrating services from on-premise infrastructure into Azure, and evolving a monolithic architecture into a modern, scalable, event-driven ecosystem.

This is a hands-on architecture role where you'll work closely with engineering teams to define architectural standards, guide implementation, and support the delivery of a long-term modernisation strategy.

The Opportunity

You'll play a key role in:

  • Leading the migration of business-critical APIs from on-premise environments into Azure
  • Defining and driving API architecture across a complex technology landscape
  • Decomposing a large API monolith into scalable, independently deployable services
  • Introducing and embedding event-driven architecture principles
  • Supporting the adoption of Kafka-based messaging and integration patterns
  • Working closely with development teams to ensure architectural alignment and technical quality
  • Helping establish best practices around scalability, resilience, security, and maintainability

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience operating as an API Architect, Solution Architect, or Senior Backend Architect
  • Strong background in API design and integration architecture
  • Experience delivering cloud migration and modernisation programmes
  • Deep understanding of microservices and distributed systems
  • Experience designing event-driven architectures
  • Ability to balance strategic architecture with practical delivery support

Technical Environment

We're currently validating the final stack, however strong experience in either of the following would be highly relevant:

  • Java
  • .NET/C#

Additional technologies include:

  • Azure
  • Kafka
  • API Management
  • Microservices
  • Event-Driven Architecture
  • Cloud-Native Platforms
  • CI/CD Pipelines
  • Distributed Systems

Ideal Experience

  • API transformation programmes
  • Monolith decomposition initiatives
  • Enterprise integration architecture
  • Large-scale cloud adoption programmes
  • High-volume or mission-critical systems

Contract Details

  • £500-£525 per day
  • 6-month initial contract
  • Strong extension potential
  • Immediate interview process

This is an opportunity to shape the future architecture of a business-critical platform whilst driving a significant shift towards cloud-native, event-driven engineering practices.
