About The Role

Hays is currently seeking an experienced Oracle Lead Developer to join our client’s dynamic team based in Glasgow. This role is pivotal in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality database solutions that support the organization’s strategic objectives. As an Oracle Lead Developer, you will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of database projects, collaborating closely with stakeholders to understand requirements, and mentoring junior team members. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex Oracle 19c database environments within a fast-paced, innovative setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of the organization’s database architecture, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Oracle database development, with significant experience working with Oracle 19c. Proven expertise in PL/SQL programming, including procedures, packages, functions, and views, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate prior experience leading development efforts or managing small teams, with a track record of delivering high-quality solutions on time. Familiarity with technical documentation such as Technical Design Documents (TDDs), as well as a solid understanding of database performance tuning and optimization, is required. Knowledge of version control systems like Git, SVN, or PVCS, and experience using project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence, will be highly advantageous. Exposure to Oracle Forms/Reports (D2K) or Oracle Hub, along with familiarity with AWS, explain plans, and reporting tools, will be considered a plus.

Responsibilities

The Oracle Lead Developer will be responsible for leading the analysis, design, and development of Oracle database solutions, primarily focusing on Oracle 19c. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing complex PL/SQL code, ensuring adherence to best practices, and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation such as TDDs. The role involves owning the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from initial design through testing and deployment, ensuring quality and timely delivery. You will act as a primary point of contact for development activities, facilitating effective communication across cross-functional teams. Collaborating with architects, business stakeholders, project managers, and business analysts to define requirements and align delivery with project timelines is crucial. Additionally, you will provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
