AI Engineer - Finance Transformation Project

AI Engineer | Contract | 6 Months | London (2 days/week) | £650-700/day | Outside IR35

We’re working with a London-based business investing heavily in AI as part of a wider transformation across its finance function.

They’re looking to bring in a senior contractor to work closely with the programme leadership team and help turn early AI ideas into practical, production-ready solutions that can genuinely improve how finance operates. This is a hands-on role for someone who can build, shape technical direction and partner effectively with stakeholders across finance and technology.

The environment is particularly well suited to someone who understands how to apply AI in a business-critical setting, rather than just experimenting at the edges.

This is an initial 6 months, outside IR35, 2 days a week in central London and at £650-700pd.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and deliver AI-enabled solutions that support finance transformation objectives, including efficiency, automation and reduction of manual effort
• Partner closely with programme leadership and finance stakeholders to identify where AI can add practical value across the function
• Take ideas, prototypes and emerging use cases and develop them into robust, scalable internal tools and workflows
• Work across modern AI tooling such as Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT to support real-world finance use cases
• Help shape internal AI capability, including supporting the adoption of existing internal platforms and products
• Contribute to the design of data and software solutions that sit behind AI-enabled finance processes
• Work with wider engineering and data teams to ensure solutions are reliable, governed and production-ready
• Support knowledge transfer and capability uplift across the finance team as AI usage matures

Required Experience

• Strong engineering background with Python experience
• Experience delivering AI, automation or data-led products into production environments
• Hands-on exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering and related AI tooling
• Good understanding of data engineering principles and how data platforms support downstream applications
• Experience working in or alongside finance teams, with a solid grasp of finance processes and transformation initiatives
• Ability to operate in a stakeholder-facing role and work effectively across technical and non-technical teams
• Exposure to Snowflake or similar modern cloud data environments

Nice to Have

• Experience working with Salesforce ecosystems
• Previous exposure to internal AI products or enterprise AI enablement programmes
• Background in finance transformation, consulting or change-led environments
• Experience building internal tools, copilots or automation solutions for business users
