About The Role

We are currently seeking a senior, hands-on DevOps & Automation Lead to join our client’s enterprise change function on a long-term contract basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence and support multiple initiatives within a dynamic environment, providing expert DevOps guidance across hybrid estates that include Azure, AWS, and on-premises infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex DevOps environments, automating infrastructure, and streamlining deployment processes to enhance operational efficiency. This position is flexible and non-project-specific, allowing the successful candidate to contribute to various ongoing initiatives based on demand.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in DevOps engineering, with a strong focus on automation and cloud-native technologies. Relevant qualifications include a solid background in cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS, along with proficiency in automation tools like Terraform and Ansible. Experience working with hybrid environments that encompass on-premises and cloud infrastructure is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, and a strong aptitude for documentation and process improvement. A proactive mindset and a willingness to explore emerging technologies, including AI automation and GenAI tooling, are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior DevOps consultant across hybrid estates, including Azure, AWS, and on-premises environments.
  • Design, build, and operate CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery and deployment processes for multi-tier systems.
  • Lead infrastructure automation initiatives using Terraform and Ansible to improve deployment speed, consistency, and reliability.
  • Support and optimize deployments across Windows, Linux, and SQL Server environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Create detailed runbooks, documentation, and self-service automation tools to enable repeatability and ease of use for operational teams.
  • Collaborate closely with delivery managers, product owners, and engineering teams to align automation strategies with business goals.
  • Engage with ephemeral environments and emerging agentic AI automation tools, exploring opportunities for self-learning and integration of GenAI technologies into DevOps workflows.

Benefits

Joining Sanderson as a DevOps & Automation Lead offers a competitive daily rate of £575 on an outside IR35 basis, with a 12-month contract located in London with hybrid working arrangements.
