PMO Lead - Telecommunications

Location: Berkshire (Hybrid Working)

Rate: £500 – £550 per day (Outside IR35)

Duration: 3–6 months initially

Start Date: ASAP


We are currently seeking an experienced PMO Lead to join a major telecommunication client on a contract basis. This is a high-impact role focused on leading programme governance, portfolio oversight, and driving delivery excellence across a complex network environment.


The Role

As PMO Lead, you will take ownership of end-to-end programme and project governance, ensuring consistent methodologies, robust reporting, and strong financial and commercial oversight across the portfolio.


You will operate at a strategic level, working closely with senior stakeholders to provide insight, challenge, and direction on delivery performance, risks, and prioritisation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and define programme and project governance frameworks across the organisation
  • Oversee a portfolio of complex programmes, ensuring alignment to strategic objectives
  • Establish and maintain PMO standards, methodologies, and best practices
  • Deliver high-quality portfolio reporting, dashboards, and executive insights
  • Manage risks, issues, and dependencies across programmes with clear mitigation strategies
  • Drive financial tracking, commercial performance, and benefits realisation
  • Engage with senior stakeholders, facilitating governance forums and decision-making
  • Lead and develop PMO teams, fostering a high-performance delivery culture
  • Implement and optimise PMO tools, processes, and reporting capabilities


Key Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a senior PMO or programme leadership role within large, complex organisations
  • Strong background in portfolio governance, reporting, and delivery oversight
  • Experience working in telecoms, networks, or similarly complex environments
  • Expertise in PMO methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, Hybrid delivery models)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders (including C-suite)
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing financial performance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Experience managing PMO tools such as PPM systems, MS Project Online, or similar
