Role: AI Product Manager (Retail)
Contract: £650 per day (Outside IR35)
Overview
A retail business is seeking an AI Product Manager to lead the development and optimisation of conversational AI products that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
The role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, and AI, requiring someone who can manage stakeholders and improve AI system performance in production. The successful candidate will help design, evaluate, and scale AI solutions that deliver measurable value while remaining efficient and reliable.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product direction for conversational AI use cases across customer and internal retail applications
- Work with stakeholders across e-commerce, stores, and customer service to define priorities and outcomes
- Translate business needs into clear product and technical requirements
- Improve AI system performance (latency, accuracy, cost efficiency)
- Partner with engineering to refine architectures (e.g. retrieval pipelines, prompt design)
- Define KPIs and implement evaluation frameworks
- Manage backlog and ensure effective, scalable delivery
Required Experience
- Experience as a Product Manager in AI, machine learning, or data products
- Hands-on experience with conversational AI (e.g. chatbots, LLMs, search)
- Proven track record improving AI systems in production
- Understanding of modern AI architectures (e.g. RAG, embeddings, vector search)
- Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Strong communicator and stakeholder manager
- Pragmatic, outcome-focused, and hands-on
Nice to Have
- Experience in retail or e-commerce
- Familiarity with tools such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, LangChain, and vector databases
- Experience supporting customer-facing AI solutions
