Data Engineer at Bristow Holland, Cambridge, £Contract Rate

Contract Description

Data Migration Engineer – Python / SQL (Contract)

Cambridge | 3 months | Outside IR35 likely | Immediate start

We’re working with a research-led organisation delivering a full migration from a legacy informatics platform into a new system.

This is a pure delivery role focused on a 3-month proof of concept. The objective is simple: prove that data can be reliably migrated and mirrored between systems.

You’ll be given the templates, access to the environments, and a clear outcome. This is about execution, not theory.

The role
  • Build and run data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data
  • Work from defined templates to structure and standardise datasets
  • Mirror and reconcile data between legacy and new systems
  • Use APIs to move and validate data across environments
  • Progress from dummy data into live datasets
  • Deliver repeatable, reliable outputs ready for scale
Required experience
  • Strong SQL (hands-on data manipulation and validation)
  • Strong Python (Pandas, PyArrow or similar)
  • Experience working with APIs (FastAPI or Flask preferred)
  • Proven delivery of data pipelines / ETL work
  • Able to work independently and move at pace
Nice to have
  • Data or system migration experience
  • Docker / containerisation
  • CI/CD or automation
Engagement

There is some openness to a fixed-term hire, but this is more likely to suit an experienced day rate contractor who can deliver quickly with minimal oversight.

Outcome (3 months)
  • Data successfully mirrored between systems
  • Working pipelines and templates in place
  • Clear foundation for full migration
