Contract Data Engineer / 6 month duration / Outside IR35 / £575 per day / London Market Insurance /


We are partnered closely with a London Market Insurance Syndicate, recruiting for a Contract Data Engineer. As Data Engineer you will be responsible for the build / development / enhancement and support the Data ecosystem (Data Platform, Datawarehouse), including but not restricted to Syndicate Data Hub. The Senior Data Engineer will promote good data hygiene across the Syndicate and wider group.


Key duties and responsibilities

Build / enhance / deliver / support the Data ecosystem, including but not restricted to Syndicate Data Hub:

  • Develop data pipelines leveraging ELT / ETL techniques to ingest, transform and display data following state-of-the-art-approach and internal standards (testing, reconciling and documenting changes is a key part of this role)
  • Design and propose changes to the group data model (with specific focus on Syndicate)
  • Support data scheduled outputs when required
  • Load ad hoc data sets into the company's data ecosystem
  • Develop, when relevant, tailor-made services / APIs to expose data for various stakeholders (end-users, systems, etc.)


Work collaboratively and support the team:

  • Share knowledge and assist in the integration of Syndicate ecosystem to the company
  • Promote good data practices across the Syndicate and wider group
  • Help Mentor junior members of the team


Work collaboratively and support the team:

  • Ensure a technological watch on Data platform solutions, especially related to data engineering topics
  • Participate to Agile rituals (dailys, sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, etc.)


Required experience & competencies

  • Deep knowledge of the Lloyds of London Market
  • Advanced T-SQL, SSIS
  • Advanced Azure Data Factory
  • Power BI / SSRS
  • MDX / DAX
  • Microsoft MDS
  • Good knowledge in decisional modelling (Kimball, Data Vault concepts…) and associated good practices
  • Understanding of the differences between SQL (on Premise) and SQL (Azure)
  • Documentation / Testing / Reconciliation
  • MS Excel
