COBOL Developer (Contract)

Location: Remote (occasional office travel)

Rate: £350–£425 per day (Outside IR35)

Contract: 3-Month Initial (Likely Extension)

We’re working with a well-established organisation are currently looking for an experienced COBOL Developer to join on a contract basis.

This is a great opportunity to work on mission-critical systems within a complex, high-volume environment, with strong likelihood of extension.

The Role

You’ll play a key role in developing and supporting core warehouse systems, working across the full software lifecycle.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining COBOL, CICS and DB2 applications supporting distribution operations
• Leading delivery across the full SDLC – from requirements through to deployment
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams on enhancements and new project streams
• Providing production support, ensuring system stability and reliability
• Participating in an out-of-hours support rota
• Driving improvements to development processes and system efficiency

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL and IBM DB2
• Proven track record delivering robust, enterprise-scale systems
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Strong communication skills across both technical and business stakeholders
• A calm, organised approach in fast-paced or support-driven environments

Desirable Experience

• SQL
• Microsoft Azure DevOps
• Natural/ADABAS or z/OS Connect
