Data Engineer
Location: Remote or Jersey (relocation optional)
Contract: 14 months, Outside IR35
Rate: Up to £420/day
Start Date: 04/2026

A tech consultancy working on a government transformation programme is seeking a Data Engineer to deliver analytics-ready data models, Fabric Lakehouse pipelines, and optimised reporting structures that support the Social Security Transformation Programme. This role combines engineering, modelling, and analytical responsibilities to ensure accurate, secure, and high-quality data flows across systems. Initial engagement will be part-time (3 days/week) with ramp-up into full-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and document medallion architecture layers (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and analytical models in Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse.

  • Build and maintain reusable data pipelines and transformations for curated datasets.

  • Develop Power BI semantic models, including DAX measures, calculation groups, hierarchies, and KPIs.

  • Implement data quality frameworks, monitoring completeness, anomalies, and stability across layers.

  • Validate integration data, perform analytical investigations, and support insight generation for business teams.

  • Manage testing, QA, and report validation including SIT/UAT cycles, measure accuracy, and KPI alignment.

  • Deploy and operationalise analytics artefacts, including Power BI workspaces, datasets, and refresh schedules.

  • Maintain governance, documentation, and knowledge transfer to BAU teams.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in data engineering, analytics modelling, and pipeline development.

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, Python, and data transformation frameworks.

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Lakehouse architecture, and Power BI semantic modelling.

  • Familiarity with analytical testing, data quality monitoring, and reporting validation.

  • Strong documentation, lineage tracking, and metadata management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Available to start early April 2026; part-time initially (3 days/week), ramping to full-time.

  • Flexible to work remotely or relocate to Jersey.
