💰 Rate: Dependent on Experience (Senior-Level Fractional Leadership)
Opus is partnered with a newly funded fintech start‑up operating at the intersection of financial technology, AI-driven decisioning and real-time data infrastructure. They are looking for an experienced Fractional CTO to set the technical direction, build the early engineering function, and drive the delivery of the product roadmap through its MVP and early customer rollout.
If you’re passionate about scaling products from zero-to-one, architecting clean and scalable systems, and building high‑performing cross-functional teams—this is an opportunity to help shape a business from the ground up.
🛠️ What You’ll Be Leading
- Defining the technology strategy, architecture, and engineering standards for a greenfield fintech + AI platform.
- Building and mentoring a cross‑functional full‑stack JavaScript engineering team (React, Node.js, TypeScript).
- Driving hands-on technical decision‑making around AI/LLM integration, data pipelines, API design, cloud infra, and security.
- Establishing engineering processes, sprint cadence, DevOps practices, and scalable foundations.
- Working closely with founders on product roadmap, feasibility, delivery timelines, and investor technical updates.
- Ensuring compliance with fintech-grade security, governance, and data privacy expectations from Day 1.
- Supporting MVP build → alpha → beta launch, ensuring fast iteration without compromising quality.
🔍 Essential Experience
- Proven track record as a CTO, VP Engineering, or senior technical leader in start-ups or high-growth tech environments.
- Deep experience building and scaling full-stack JavaScript teams (React, Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js).
- Strong architectural background across distributed systems, event-driven design, and cloud-native platforms.
- Exposure to AI/ML/LLM product integration (prompting, embeddings, model selection, vector search, observability).
- Background in fintech, reg‑tech, payments, or other regulated, security-heavy domains is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable experience hiring, mentoring, and shaping engineering culture.
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on when required.
⚙️ The Tech Landscape (You’ll Shape This)
While the stack is not fully locked in, the expected environment will include:
- React, Node.js, TypeScript
- Microservices & event-driven architectures
- AWS / GCP
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CDK)
- PostgreSQL / real-time data streaming tools
- LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, vector DBs such as Pinecone/Weaviate)
