Software Engineering Lead - Backend (JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, Kafka)

Outside IR35

Remote with 2 days a month in the office in London

We're looking for an experienced Software Engineering Lead with a strong Back End development background to lead the delivery of scalable, cloud-native systems.

Key skills:

• Strong commercial experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js
• Proven experience building event-driven systems using Kafka
• Strong AWS experience across modern cloud services
• Background designing and operating microservices/distributed systems
• Hands-on technical leader with experience mentoring engineers and leading delivery

Role overview:

• Lead Back End architecture and development while remaining hands-on
• Drive best practices through code reviews and technical leadership
• Work closely with Product, DevOps, and Architecture teams
• Own system scalability, performance, and reliability

This role suits a technically strong leader who enjoys setting direction and getting into the code.
