Contract Engineering Team Lead – London (Hybrid) - £550/day OUTSIDE IR35

We’re currently partnering with a fast-growing fintech organisation that is transforming the payments landscape across the UK and Europe. They are looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to join their team on a contract basis, leading a high-performing engineering squad delivering customer-facing financial technology products.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys combining technical delivery with team leadership in a modern, fast-paced product environment.

The Role

As Engineering Team Lead, you’ll oversee a cross-functional engineering squad responsible for building and delivering customer-facing applications within a broader embedded finance ecosystem. You’ll help guide ideas from concept through to production, ensuring high engineering standards, predictable delivery, and strong team engagement.

You’ll remain technically involved when needed, supporting the team with architecture, coding, and engineering best practices while also mentoring engineers and driving delivery outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a cross-functional engineering squad, establishing strong delivery rhythm and a high-performance culture
• Support and mentor engineers, helping drive growth, performance and career development
• Contribute to the codebase when needed, maintaining technical credibility and setting engineering standards
• Own end-to-end delivery of customer-facing features from discovery and architecture to production release
• Work closely with Product and Design to deliver measurable customer value
• Ensure strong standards across testing, reliability, observability, and security

What We’re Looking For

• Strong hands-on software engineering experience with modern stacks (.NET/React)
• Previous experience leading or mentoring engineers
• Experience delivering customer-facing products in agile environments
• Solid understanding of software architecture, APIs, cloud-native systems, and operational best practices
• Ability to balance technical depth with delivery leadership
• Strong communication skills and experience working cross-functionally in fast-paced teams
