Platform Engineer - Farnborough (Hybrid) - Contract

Rate: £500-600/day Outside IR35

Overview

Fuel Recruitment is partnering with a leading Defence & Security organisation that is looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join its growing team. This is an opportunity to support high-impact, fast-moving projects that require robust, scalable platform capabilities. You'll play a key role in shaping CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes environments and automation initiatives, ensuring smooth collaboration between platform and development teams. This role will initially focus on implementation and deployment activities before evolving into long-term platform support, security and performance optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure Kubernetes environments to support scalable, resilient application deployments.
  • Design and build CI/CD pipelines to streamline delivery and improve development efficiency.
  • Support on-premise and cloud platforms using automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Implement monitoring solutions to ensure the health and performance of platform services.
  • Manage repositories and version control practices to support effective collaboration.
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual processes and improve reliability.
  • Work closely with Platform and Development teams to ensure effective integration and best-practice usage.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in maintainability, supportability, security and performance.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in Platform Engineering, SRE, Platform Integration or similar roles.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Proven expertise designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or similar).
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus or Grafana.
  • Strong understanding of Git and repository management best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead automation initiatives in complex environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is highly desirable.

Eligibility

The successful candidates MUST have active SC clearance (or higher).
