Senior Data Engineer - Outside IR35 - Hybrid

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure Data Engineer to design and deliver an end-to-end Azure-based data warehouse for a wealth management firm undergoing a large-scale digital and data transformation. The role will involve leading the engineering of a scalable data platform, integrating multiple data sources, and enabling both batch and Real Time data consumption.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of an end-to-end Azure data warehouse.

• Implement Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion architecture.

• Build batch and incremental ETL/ELT pipelines.

• Integrate data from files, APIs, and databases.

• Design dimensional models (Kimball star schemas) including SCD Type 2.

• Implement Master Data Management concepts such as entity resolution and golden records.

• Develop REST APIs to support Real Time data access.

• Define integration patterns and document architectural decisions (ADRs).

• Implement data quality checks, validation, and exception reporting.

• Apply partitioning strategies and performance optimisation techniques.

• Work with architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions.

• Azure SQL Database

• Azure Data Factory (ADF)

• Azure Synapse Analytics

• Azure Functions

• Dimensional modelling and enterprise data warehouse design

• Batch and incremental data pipelines

• File-based ingestion (CSV/XLS) and database replication strategies

• REST API development for data access

• Data quality and reconciliation frameworks

• Security: Azure RBAC, Managed Identities, Key Vault, row-level security, PII handling

• DevOps practices including Git, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/ARM), and CI/CD pipelines

Experience

• 5+ years building data platforms on Azure.

• Proven experience delivering end-to-end data warehouse solutions as a lead engineer.

• Financial services experience preferred.
